Smart Luggage
Whether smart baggage can be carried depends on its lithium battery:
  • Smart baggage with a permanently fixed (non-removable) lithium battery cannot be accepted as carry-on or checked baggage.
  • If the battery is removable, the bag may be checked only once the battery is taken out. That battery must travel with you in your hand baggage, individually protected against short circuits (in its original retail packaging, with terminals taped over, or in a separate bag or pouch).
  • If the smart bag is brought on board as carry-on, the battery may stay installed.
  • In all cases the device must be completely switched off – not in sleep or hibernation mode – and protected from damage and unintentional activation.
  • These rules apply to batteries exceeding 0.3 g lithium content (lithium metal) or 2.7 Wh (lithium ion). Baggage with only lithium button cells is exempt.

For more information see our FAQ on Smart Luggage.
